When it comes to dates, sometimes dinner and Netflix simply doesn't cut it. Whether you just started dating or you’re looking for a few hours away from the daily routine, it's important to step outside the box once in awhile and do something different with your significant other.
If you're having troubles thinking of great date-night ideas for the chilly months ahead, have no fear. Omaha provides a number of fun date-night options for any budget — even in the winter. Here are some of our favorites.
1. Meet at the rink
Ice-skating is the ultimate activity for a wintery date night. Head to the Moylan Iceplex on Saturday nights 7:30pm – 10:30pm when they turn down the house lights and turn on the party lights with a live DJ. The Ralston Arena, Motto McLean Ice Arena, Grover Ice Rink and the UNMC Ice Rink are a few other indoor and outdoor options. For just $5 - 10 entrance fee, you’ll stay warm, get a workout, and have enough left over to grab a hot chocolate afterward.
2. Laugh it up

Check out Funny Bone Comedy Club or The Backline for an intimate setting and hilarious performances ranging from improv and sketch comedy shows to talented stand-up performances. Enjoy dinner or drinks for two and a night full of laughter at one of the funniest spots in Omaha.
3. Bond over board games
There are 1,500 games and counting on the shelves at Spielbound, a board game haven and the perfect place for a fun night out. This board game cafe has all the staples (Monopoly, Candy Land, Chess, Trivial Pursuit) but the majority of the games they stock you've probably never heard of. Getting together for a game night will only set you back $5 at Spielbound, where they also serve various coffee drinks, craft beer, wine and an array of sweet and salty snacks to keep your competitive side energized.
4. Unlock your inner artist

Regardless if you are an expert painter or total beginner, you can both explore your artistic sides with a painting session at Pinot’s Palette or The Corky Canvas. With a paintbrush in one hand and a beverage in the other, create your own work of art and enjoy a fun night out.
5. Grab a donut

Who doesn't love donuts? Set out on your own informal tour of some of the best donut shops Omaha has to offer. We recommend starting out at the Olsen Bake Shop on S 10th Street, a class family-run favorite. Then, head over to The Donut Stop, a delightfully quirky Omaha treasure. Finally, hop over to Pettit's Pastry, a timeless shop that’s been serving up wonderful rolls, donuts, and cakes since 1954.
6. See an indie film

Switch up movie night by skipping the blockbuster hits and catching a smaller, independent film instead. Film Streams, Omaha's nonprofit two-screen theater, offers new independent and foreign films every Friday. The new Alamo Drafthouse is another film-lover's paradise, hosting themed movie nights and unconventional films. Enjoy a menu full of tasty options and local brews to enjoy for a fun twist on dinner and a movie.
