While whisking your date off to a multi-course meal at one of the city’s finest restaurants makes for a lovely night out, sometimes it can be just as fun to skip the reservations and plan a more adventurous or more low-key date at one of the many excellent spots around town for foodies. You’ll learn something, you’ll eat, you’ll drink, and you’ll have fun.
From a picnic in the park to a spin on dinner and a movie, here are some unique date ideas for foodies in Omaha!
1. Food truck crawl
Plan your own food truck crawl and indulge on some of the best street food Omaha has to offer. Local trucks include Anthony Piccolo’s Mobile Food Venue, Chicago Dawg House, La Casa Pizzaria, Ox ‘N’ Bull BBQ, Peanut Butter Johnny’s, Sweet Lime Thai and Taste of New Orleans. To keep track of them all and plan your route, visit the Omaha Food Truck Association’s Facebook page.
2. Snack your way around The Farmers Market
Head to the largest farmers market in Omaha at the Old Market and sample some of the best bread, cookies, cheeses, and treats from one of the 100+ vendors who set up here every Saturday. The Cookie Lady, Jisa’s Farmstead Cheese, La Quartier Bakery, and The Nut Hutte are just a few to try!
3. Picnic in the Park
With around 200 public parks, Omaha’s city park system ranks 11th best in the country and with Spring in full bloom, what better way to enjoy the fresh air and the sunshine than a picnic in the park? A picnic is a great way to get to know your date in a low-key, more relaxed setting. Pack up simple foods like sandwiches or grab a coffee and pastries to-go and head out to one of these picnic-perfect parks.
4. Craft Brewery Tours
Hop on the Omaha Brew Bus with your date and learn about the rapidly growing craft beer scene on this informative, fun and relaxed tour. You’ll get a behind the scenes look at what each brewery does on a daily basis and sample a flagship beer in each of the tasting rooms. Alternatively, you can plan out your own craft beer tour for free. Stop by the Omaha Visitors Center for a free Explorer’s Journal and enjoy a free craft beer at each of the nine featured breweries. At the end, you can pick up a free souvenir pint glass to commemorate your journey. Cheers!
5. Dinner and movie
The traditional “dinner and movie” date night has taken on a new twist in recent years with the popularity of dine-in movie theaters. Instead of going out to eat and catching a movie afterward, you and your date can venture out to a dine-in theater and enjoy gourmet options that go beyond bar food. Enjoy dinner and a movie inside the theater with a full restaurant and cocktail menu at CineDine located at The Marcus Midtown Cinema in Omaha. With a multi-course menu, cocktails, and craft beers on tap, The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is another great option.
6. World Food Tour
If you and your date are foodies, then attending one of the weekly World Food Tours in Omaha is a must. You can RSVP to join this Meetup Group that visits a new restaurant each week to experience the wonderful variety of world cuisines available in Omaha while meeting new people. Whether it’s Thai, Ethiopian, Korean, Brazilian, or French food, this is the perfect way to go outside the box and explore the unique foods Omaha has to offer.
