We sat down with Sarah Middleton, the owner and esthetician of Middleton Aesthetics, to learn more about her business and her passion of helping others have the best in skin treatments and skin care. Sarah started her own business in 2008 and remains one of the few long standing esthetician businesses in Omaha. She takes time with each client and strives to ensure that they are receiving the best treatment for their skin's health concerns.

Could you tell us about how you started Middleton Aesthetics?
I have always had the type of skin that was acne prone. It wasn’t until I started working for a makeup counter at a department store that I realized I wanted to learn more about skin. I had tried many products at stores and never understood why my skin never seemed to clear up. And along with that, I had doctors that wanted to put me on medicines and I did not want to go that route either. So I began looking into esthetics and more importantly the job of an esthetician. After researching the esthetic field, I knew I wanted to become an esthetician. I wanted to figure out my own skin and in return, help others in understanding how to take care of our largest organ.
After graduation, I was fortunate enough to land a job at a well- respected Med Spa in Omaha. I was able to learn the medical side of esthetics and felt that my time there helped me learn the balance of relaxation for a client while still being able to help them get on the right track of having healthy skin.
In 2008, I decided to start my own business. I did this so that I could balance time with my family and work. I am so proud of my business and my clients, some of whom that have been with me since the beginning. I enjoy my job and in fact, I feel weird calling it a “job” because it doesn’t seem like work. I enjoy educating my clients on ways to take care of their skin. And it really does bring me joy to know I’m helping others in their skin complaints, after dealing with my own battles with my skin problems.
My goal is to create a space that is relaxing and comfortable for my client so that they leave rejuvenated and confident when they leave.
When did Middleton Aesthetics at the Joslyn Castle open?
In January 2015, I was given the chance to move into the Carriage House at the historic Joslyn Castle. I am still blown away that I get to be a part of the business community at the Joslyn Castle. It is so peaceful to drive into the Castle grounds and see the gorgeous landscape surrounding the Castle. It’s almost like going to a hidden getaway in Omaha.
What are some of the services you offer that people should definitely know about?
The services I offer range from your relaxing Spa Facials to more aggressive anti-aging/ acne treatments that give amazing results.
I always do a short consultation before referring clients to a more aggressive treatment. I love all the services I offer. In fact, I live by the rule that if I wouldn’t like the treatment or see results from it, then I’m not offering it to others. That said, my favorite Facial/Peel treatment I love to do and see fantastic immediate results with my clients’ skin is the 02 Lift. The 02 Lift, is a full facial with the relaxing benefits of steam and facial massage, but also has an enzyme based peel and an Oxygen burst masque to end the treatment. My clients see their skin glowing and even fine lines plumped. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve received messages weeks after their facial, exclaiming how they are still seeing results. That’s my favorite part!
Another favorite of mine and my clients is the Micro-Peel. This treatment is one that I do require a consultation to ensure that the skin can handle the treatment. It’s a favorite because you see fast results with acne scars, fine lines. texture, tone (hyper pigmentation). Most of us have these as complaints and would like to see our skin in the best shape. This is the treatment that will get you to those goals.
What are your top 3 favorite local businesses in Omaha?
I love the idea of supporting other local business in Omaha. There are so many great ones that it’s hard to name only a few that I enjoy supporting. Many mornings you may see me running for my morning coffee at Dundee Double Shot. It’s like my “Cheers” place where they know my name and I love their coffee! The owners are genuinely kind and always have a smile ready to pass on.
Another place I love to go to is Mark’s Bistro. If you can have the best gourmet mac and cheese and the best patio in Omaha, then sign me up!
And lastly, I have to include Bliss Bakery in this list. Many good, deep conversations have happened over a deliciously warm, gooey cinnamon roll from Bliss Bakery. And now I realize my top 3 have to do with food and coffee.
So can I add a fourth and put some beautiful flowers in the mix? I just had delivered for the first time a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from Zinnia. To be honest, I didn’t even want to take them out of the burlap wrap and bow. It was so beautifully displayed. However, when I did finally put them in a vase, it turned into this gorgeous garden in a vase! My home was filled with the aroma of the flowers. I was pleasantly surprised on how fragrant and fresh they were!
What might surprise customers about you or your business?
My lifelong passion is music. I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t involved in music is some way or another. I’ve played several instruments. Although, I wasn’t the best at practicing before my lessons so I won’t be joining the Omaha Symphony at any time. But I do love singing. My voice is my true instrument and I love to be a part of anything where I can use it. I especially enjoy singing at my church with a group of other wonderful vocalists and musicians.
Now fortunately or unfortunately, I will not sing to you during a facial, but I do take it serious in picking out music that I play during a client’s appointment. I lean towards choosing music that has a baroque style. It makes me feel like I'm in a Jane Austen book. And we are near a castle, so we should definitely support that genre of music!
What’s your favorite flower?
My favorite flowers are Tulips. There’s something warm and homey about them. Probably comes from the memory of seeing them grow in our garden when I was young. They have a strength about them that is so beautiful. I always loved seeing the bright green of their leaves poking up through the brown ground left from a long winter and giving hope that Spring is on its way.
