Maintaining friendships with old friends, whether they’re friends from childhood or just friends that moved away, can be tricky. Sure you may follow each other on social media or text from time to time, but there are many other ways to stay in touch that go beyond this and can be fun to try. Here are a few creative and easy ways to keep up your old friendships, even as your lives change!

1. Send each other Snapchat updates

Make an effort to send each other a weekly snap of what you’re both up to. Whether you’re just doing laundry or vacationing in the Bahamas, sharing a quick photo or video on a regular basis can be a fun way to stay in touch.

2. Write a real postcard or letter

There’s nothing like receiving snail mail in a time when email and social media dominate our conversations. Taking the time to send a handwritten letter is a genuine way to show your friends who might live far away you’re thinking of them!

3. Start a book club

Starting your own private book club and chatting about the book each week can be a fun way to do something together when you don’t get the chance to meet up in person often.

4. Send care packages

Everyone loves care packages. Make an effort to send each other a care package once per month or so filled with your friend’s favorite treats, or with special items you think they must try and you can both indulge!

5. Meet up halfway

With work, school, and families, sometimes it can be challenging to get away from it all and find the time to plan a special trip to see friends. Instead, meeting each other at a halfway point can be less challenging for both of your schedules. And the weirder the place, the more fun you’re guaranteed to have!

6. Send flowers

Of course, sending flowers is always a great way to brighten up your friends day and show them you’re thinking about them. Mix up the generic note and include an inside joke or lyrics to your favorite song to make them laugh.
